Poquoson Museum Acquires Voter Registrar's Office

The City of Poquoson has donated and relocated the small yellow wood framed building once used by the Registrar to the Poquoson Museum. Built in the early 1930's as a polling place, the structure was originally located in Messick. When Poquoson became a city in 1975, Poquoson resident Gray Forrest, then a member of the York County Board of Supervisors, voted to give the building to Poquoson. The structure was moved from Messick to a location near the Poquoson Parks & Recreation building off Poquoson Avenue.

The museum plans to rehabilitate the building back to its 1930's appearance. Currently the building is located on the future marsh walk trail at the museum campus. Signage will provide visitors with information about the history of the building.

The museum is very grateful, and thanks the City of Poquoson for providing this piece of local history to the museum, that all our citizens might know and understand the historical significance of the building.
